The Du-Rites did the music for this Levi’s ad! Not our typical funk (more rock-ish) but we “du” it all!
Heres a brand new mini-documentrary about The Du-Rites and the making of our new album, Gamma Ray Jones! And our adulation for the great TV detective shows of the 1960s-’80s. Pablo and I hope you enjoy it! If cinematic instrumental funk is your thang, give it a whirl. Directed by Dylan Hundley.

It’s been quiet around here because Pablo and I have been working tirelessly on new Du-Rites stuff, including a single (“Gamma Ray Funk” b/w “Fish Sammich”) due in May, the score to Bobbito Garcia’s Rock Rubber 45s documentary and a possible album for the fall (we’re about 70% done). We took time out to do an interview with Micro-Chop/Medium about it all.
and stay tuned.
So I guess The Du-Rites are The Wu-Rites for a day. Pablo and I cooked up a remix for “Worldwide” by France’s own Wax Tailor (Featuring Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah). Always wanted to work with Ghostface when I was super active as a hip-hop producer, so to get the opportunity with my latest endeavor, The Du-Rites, is a plus. Check out the Du-Wu-Wax collaboration in YouTube clip below and buy it on iTunes if ya dig it and show Wax Tailor some support.
Greasy Listening got a few write-ups and Pablo and I were out in the field promoting Greasy Listening, our latest album as The Du-Rites. Check out what we (and others) have to say…
If you want to pick up a vinyl or CD copy, get it on Bandcamp (while supplies last). Digital download with bonus features there as well and also available on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, etc.
So my funk group, The Du-Rites, has officially released the grease! Join us as we celebrate album #2 (Greasy Listening) today. If you ever choke on a fried neckbone covered in grits, I hope this album is playing and it’s the last thing you hear in your life. Jokes aside, we’re proud of the record and hope you dig it. No matter who you are, you can enjoy Greasy Listening.
People with turntables and 2002 Ford Focuses with CD players can buy it here: Bandcamp
People who don’t pay for music but enjoy leaving comments about what happened at the 1:14 mark of the song can stream it here: Soundcloud
Also on Spotify, YouTube, Tidal, etc. but I cashed out my combined earnings from those three places and couldn’t pay the Throgs Neck Bridge toll. But it’s there!
Here’s our music video if you missed it: Du The Twitch
I’ve always hated doing music videos. I had no “rap hands” and I own about three outfits. (Well, “Gadget Ho” was fun). I’ve managed to avoid doing them for almost two decades, but in 2017, I figured it’s time to get up to speed. So I proudly present “Du The Twitch,” the first music video from my band The Du-Rites and a cut from our upcoming sophomore album, Greasy Listening. That drops next week. Till then enjoy the video (directed by Dylan Hundley) and the premiere/write up from Flea Market Funk.
My funk band with badass multi-instrumentalist and my long time mastering engineer, Pablo Martin, is called The Du-Rites. The Du-Rites are my pride and joy, so whenever we throw down, we make sure the grease is burning. Our sophomore LP, Greasy Listening, drops in September. The lead single, “Bite It” b/w “Bocho’s Groove” is out now (buy it here). We figured we’d post another example of what’s on Greasy Listening on SoundCloud today, so here’s “Woody The Wino,” an album cut. Enjoy:
Finally! My very first pure funk endeavor is now available! It’s been on my to-do list for about 30 years and it feels amazing to finally have achieved it, although I never thought it would be primarily as a drummer and playing keys (with bass on a few cuts). Special shout out to my partner in funk, Mr. Pablo Martin – we are The Du-Rites! The actual “street date” is November 18, but digital download and a limited number of orange vinyl LPs and green shell tapes are available for pre-order now at: thedurites.bandcamp.com
They’ll ship around November 1. Should we run out of vinyl and/or tapes, they’re also available at www.redefinitionrecords.com and they’ll ship in the same time frame. Otherwise, pick up the wax or tape at your favorite mom + pop sites/stores November 18.
For those who don’t collect, the album will be on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, etc. tomorrow (October 21). I’ll do a separate post about that.
If spendin’ money ain’t your thing, you can always stream the album 24/7 on our Soundcloud page. We even considered the broke folks!
Too soon? I have a feeling this will get lost in Trump memes but oh well. There are 7 autographed test pressings of the The Du-Rites LP going on sale at www.redefinitionrecords.com at midnight EST (10/20). They ship immediately. During the afternoon (also on 10/20) the album will be for sale at thedurites.bandcamp.com digitally, with pre-orders for commercial copies of the LP and a few cassettes also live. ReDefinition Records will have the same preorder up. Those ship around Nov. 1. Album on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc. this Friday (10/21) and vinyl/tape official street date for stores is Nov. 18. #thedurites!
