The Du-Rites first live album drops September 13, 2019 on vinyl, all streaming platforms and digitally! Here’s a peek at the cover.

In preparation for the release of the fourth Du-Rites LP (and our first live album), Soundcheck at 6, here’s a clip from our show at Symphony Space earlier this year. This song (“The Bronx Is Burning”) isn’t on the live album, so get a taste of it here! Soundcheck at 6 is out on Old Maid Ent./Ilegalia/ReDefinition Records in September 2019. Watch more of that concert here.

So The Du-Rites’ first live album, Soundcheck at 6, will drop this fall both digitally and on wax (with vinyl c/o ReDefinition Records)! After our Symphony Space show in February, we decided to throw down the live energy to tape and do something different for our fourth LP in just as many years. Pablo and I are joined by Bill Harvey on bass and Bruce Martin on keyboards and percussion. If you’re familiar with our catalog, you know how short most of our songs are, but on stage we got to stretch out, solo and vamp our asses off. Recorded at The Undisclosed Location in Brooklyn, Soundcheck at 6 brings The Du-Rites live show right to your personal listening device. Till then, here’s a few Instagram teasers we shot during the mastering of the album.

My monthly funk night at Robert Bar in Brooklyn is doubling as the album release party for The Du-Rites’ Greasy Listening LP. Come and get your copy on vinyl or CD (we’ll have both for sale), then stick around for my normal funk throw down on the turntables.
Flyer above has all pertinent information, but we’ll actually be starting at 7:30. Swing by.

After years of “you never spin when I’m in town” and “you don’t spin consistently,” I’ve finally landed my first official weekly DJ gig at The Tuck Room, NYC (at iPic Theaters – 11 Fulton St.) I do my usual transporting of a few hours worth of funk and soul records to lay it down in a time warp every Thursday from 7:30-11:30. Come by after work for a drink, dinner, to catch a game, hear some deep soul or all the above.
In addition to my monthly at Robert Bar and random drumming gigs, I’ll always be somewhere trying to keep the groove going. Promo video above. Stop by.
Speaking of Robert Bar, may as well put the flyer for the March gig here.

Here’s what I’ve got leading up to and in March thus far. Both DJ and drumming gigs. Things sometimes pop up, so I’ll add them as they do.

03.06 – w/Lulu Lewis @ Black Rose Bar, NYC. Low volume, low key rock gig.
03.09 – The Tuck Room @ iPic Theaters, NYC. Funk & Soul.
03.16 – The Tuck Room @iPic Theaters, NYC. Funk & Soul.
03.18 – Soul Vibrations @ Robert Bar

I’m not an Aquarius – it’s just an unofficial, 8 days early 40th birthday party. 40 is a controversial birthday, but for all the fear around it I still have a full head of hair. I’m not big on celebrations, so figured I’d just invite folks down to my monthly gig for some good funk and soul. I’ll be working, but come help me celebrate this jump into the land of quadruple OGs.

The Roxanne Shanté “Live On Stage” cover makes little to no sense, but I have two gigs this month and neither are hip-hop-related – I figured someone would be thrown off without a hip-hop reference.
Quiet month on the gig front; I’ve been holed up in the studio and doing boring prep work for this year’s releases. But I do have one DJ gig at Robert Bar and one drumming gig with rock band LuLu Lewis:
02.07.17 – with LuLu Lewis at Knitting Factory (B’klyn)
02.18.17 – Soul Vibrations! at Robert Bar (B’klyn)
Flyer for the Robert Bar gig coming soon.
